I joined the SHASCOM team in 2021. After completing the fire academy and serving as a volunteer firefighter for several years, I knew I wanted to work as a first responder but decided field work wasn’t the best option for me. As a 911 dispatcher, I enjoy being the first contact for people needing help. In the beginning, the job was intimidating but I had great trainers and I enjoyed the challenge of learning new things.
Being a dispatcher is an important job and a great career. I enjoy serving a purpose in our community, helping people, being kind, and providing good customer service. The dispatch center is a unique dynamic and feels like a family. When big incidents happen, watching everyone work together and being a part of our team is one of my favorite aspects of the job.
Shift work can be challenging as a single mom, but we help each other out, which allows me time off for school events or special occasions. I am proud to be a 911 dispatcher, I enjoy setting a good example and being a good role model for my son.
